An inside look to the life of the tech team at AutoVex
AutoVex is a pioneering C2B service that is transforming the landscape of the used car market.
As Finland’s largest player in this domain, AutoVex provides a platform for car sellers and car dealerships to connect and trade cars.
Behind the AutoVex service, there are multiple, hard working teams, one of them being the awesome tech team.
This remarkable team is responsible for making the user experience as good as possible for both parties by enhancing the technologies and systems in the service.
Now, it is time to meet the faces behind the screens as we have a little chat with Marcus, one of the trailblazers of the dynamic AutoVex tech team.

Tech Beginnings from 2020 – What has been going on?
In 2020 the AutoVex tech team was born with just one player, Marcus, and stayed as a team of one for half a year.
From that, the team has grown from a team of one to a team of 7.
Currently, the team consists of both infrastructure experts and full stack developers – all equipped with great skill sets in both code and problem solving.
According to Marcus, it was first difficult to start from scratch by building new processes, and cleaning the once outsourced code.
Now the processes are efficient and things like bugs can be cleared out quicker than ever.
Cracking the code – How is it working in a growing company?
Marcus tells that the best thing about working in a scaleup, and a former startup, is the freedom of possibilities.
As the routines have only been around for a few years, there is quite a lot of freedom in the way the team members can choose to work.
The same applies for the tools and processes. As the company grows and evolves, so do the teams and their ways of working.
In addition, Marcus mentions that you really can’t get bored here. New solutions and improvements are constantly being worked on while the company is trying to unlock new markets and customer segments.
Beyond the code – Get to know the tech team’s vibes
What is the tech team known for in the company? Well, in addition to drinking loads of coffee, the tech team is known for their good work ethic and fast response times.
According to Marcus, the most frequently used reactions and emojis in their chats are quite positive.
They often use the flame emoji to celebrate achievements, such as finishing a task.
What comes to the team dynamics, Marcus describes that the team is always helping each other out and that the members are open-minded and enthusiastic when it comes to solving problems.
Tech titans – The tech team is the power behind the AutoVex service
Some would describe the tech team as the heart and operation that keeps the service going.
We asked what makes the tech team the best team. Here’s what Andrew, our full stack developer answered:
“We aren’t the best team — we just serve Customer Success Team and Account Managers and we try to be as invisible as possible. It’s just about making the communication between car buyers and car sellers to be as easy and straightforward as possible.”
To be fair, the team has apparently succeeded in this, with over 100 000 happy car sellers and hundreds of car buyers from all over Finland.
The Binary of Brilliance – How is the day-to-day life for the tech team?
The team starts their mornings with morning meetings (and a lot of coffee) every day.
On Mondays, the team usually goes to a Nepalese restaurant near the office. A common favorite meal is the famous Butter Chicken.
The team has meetings every other week with all the other teams. During these meetings, the other teams present issues or wishes for new updates and improvements based on their work and future plans.
Something else that happens biweekly too, are the tech team’s sprint meetings. During these meetings the team gathers all relevant tasks and plans for the upcoming two weeks.
However, new bugs or tasks can come up with very short notice, so according to Marcus
“the plans made in the meeting rarely fully stay as planned”.
This comment best describes the teams day to day life.
Days and weeks can vary a lot and they look a bit different for each team member. Some have long term projects, but sometimes there are unpredictable bugs that take an hour or so to fix.
Beyond the code – What’s next for the tech team?
We asked Marcus to give us a quick peek at the tech team’s crystal ball as we asked what the future holds for the team. Apparently great things.
We can’t reveal too much about the upcoming updates in the service but what we can disclose are the new great hires.
The team is the largest among all teams and it shows no signs of stopping its growth!
